Meredith Bertrand, EdM, has served as a faculty practitioner in the Bay Path College Education Department since September 2007.
Prior to joining Bay Path, she was a program supervisor for master’s level student teachers in the Collaborative Teacher and Education Program at the University of Massachusetts. She teamed with a colleague to coordinate the launching of the Bridges to the Future Program— a program which places student teachers and University liaisons in rural districts in western Massachusetts.
Bertrand received her bachelor’s degree in English literature from Smith College in 2000, and immediately upon graduation, she enrolled in Smith College’s Education and Child Study Master’s Degree Teaching Program, where she received her master’s degree. Bertrand was awarded a research fellowship investigating and documenting the teaching of inquiry science to elementary school students, and she began her career in teaching as a sixth grade teacher in Hatfield, MA following her graduate studies.
Today, Bertrand is a doctoral student at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the Teacher Education and School Improvement Program with a concentration in retention and attrition rates for novice teachers. She is currently working on her dissertation, which is a mixed-method study investigating novice teachers’ perceived support in local public school districts in an effort to measure probable rates of attrition and retention of those teachers.
Bertrand is also a prolific artist and published poet, who has worked on various children’s art projects in collaboration with the Northampton Recreation Department in Northampton, MA.
