Profile
Dr. Kristine Barnett is a faculty practitioner in the graduate programs in higher education administration. To this role, Dr. Barnett brings a wealth of experience in the higher education world, both as a faculty member and as an academic administrator. She teaches MHE 621: The Contemporary College Student and MHE 610: The Higher Education Curriculum.
Currently, Dr. Barnett coordinates all aspects of the campus-wide writing portfolio program at Saint Joseph College. In this role, she trains faculty to assess and monitor portfolios and other assessment activities, counsels and advises students regarding their portfolios and program progress, tutors undergraduate and graduate students, serves as writing associate for many courses across the curriculum and develops and teaches composition and professional communications courses.
Previously, Dr. Barnett worked at Johnson and Wales University where she managed the Graduate School’s Professional Communication Center and served as an adjunct faculty member and graduate school tutor. She also developed and implemented programs within the Graduate School’s Professional Communications Center.
At the John Hazen White School of Arts and Sciences, Dr. Barnett served as a faculty member teaching courses across the communications area, managed the institution’s service learning program and worked with students to complete their writing portfolios. She has teaching experience at several other colleges including The University of New Haven and Eastern Connecticut State University. Dr. Barnett also has extensive business experience having worked within the marketing communications area for Anthem Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Connecticut and HealthRight, Inc.
Dr. Barnett is a frequent conference presenter and is the author of Unlocking the Doors to College and Career Success and Leading College Writing Centers into the Future: Strategies for Survival and Sustainability.
Dr. Barnett received the Doctorate in Educational Leadership in Higher Education from Johnson and Wales University, the Master of Arts in English from Central Connecticut State University, and the baccalaureate in English and Secondary Education from Russell Sage College in New York.
Kris lives in West Hartford with her husband and two young daughters.
