SOC 305 — Domestic Violence

The course overviews various types of domestic violence, including the differing kinds of child abuse (physical, sexual, emotional, psychological, and neglect); spousal abuse; courtship violence; levels of violence in the family; family cycle of abuse; and the cycling theory of battering incidents. An in-depth look at the characteristics of the abusers is given, along with the traits of children and spouses who are abused. Finally, the treatment and modalities of intervention at the individual and family levels are presented.
