Supervised field experiences provide the student therapist with an opportunity to apply theory and clinical reasoning skills to the assessment and treatment of people with disabilities in a variety of settings. The fieldwork experience is arranged and coordinated by the academic fieldwork coordinator according to the requirements of the American Occupational Therapy Association ACOTE Committee and the Department of Occupational Therapy. Clinical experiences may not be located near the student’s home. Students are required to complete 24 weeks of full-time Level II fieldwork following completion of all academic courses. Fieldwork must be completed within 24 months of class. The fieldwork experience is designed to provide an in-depth experience in delivering OT services to clients, focusing on purposeful and meaningful occupation. The student shall be exposed to a variety of individuals across the life span and to a variety of settings. The fieldwork experience shall promote clinical reasoning and reflective practice to transmit the values and beliefs that enable ethical practice and to develop professionalism and competence as career responsibilities. The goal of Level II fieldwork is to develop competent, entry-level generalist occupational therapy. Transportation to and from the fieldwork site is the responsibility of the student. The sequence and dates of the fieldwork placement may be altered depending on the availability of placement sites, or need for federal financial aid.
Requirements and Prerequsites
Prerequisites: Completion of all college general education and occupational therapy classes, current health insurance, health records with immunizations and TB testing, malpractice liability insurance, CPR certification, and other requirements stated in the Bay Path College Occupational Therapy Student Handbook
